The City of Molalla Police Department needed a new public safety building, so the City hired Mackenzie to design a civically engaging facility.

The facility utilizes a structural brick to create a secure exterior envelope for the main operational footprint.

DESIGN DRIVERS

The essential facility was organized for resilience and designed to create a more civically engaging relationship with the Molalla community.

The building's layout maintains a natural separation for security, with public interface prioritized along the street and secure operations and parking behind it.
The design showcases Molalla's timber through its hybrid structural system of CLT panels, and preserves the site's history with salvaged wood from Molalla Bowl.
A transparent and welcoming approach was taken with the public entry plaza, which visually connects visitors to a public-facing lobby and community room.
