“The automotive industry has long been a symbol of American innovation and progress. But the demand for innovation never wavers," the leader of Panasonic's battery manufacturing businesses in the United States, Allan Swan wrote in Forbes recently. "Even in a future where internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles remain prevalent, the innovation and market opportunities for EVs are immense.”
This high-profile project is Panasonic's first standalone EV battery manufacturing facility in the US. The facility, the largest economic development in Kansas's history, is expected to support 4,000 permanent employees and bring in $2.5 billion in yearly economic activity. Mackenzie, working as a design consultant for engineering firm SSOE, provided expertise in advanced tech and fast-track design on the project.
Every year for over a decade, Mackenzie’s Portland and Vancouver offices field a slow pitch softball team. We play in a league against Portland-area engineering, architecture, and construction firms.
We're doing surprisingly well this season. With a six and four record so far, according to team captain Ty Kirchhofer, we're on a winning streak.
We are just good enough to be entertaining,” Ty says. “We're good enough to beat the other engineering firms, but not good enough to beat the contractors.”

This state-of-the-art community justice facility is the culmination of years of planning in Lynnwood. The project focuses on a therapeutic approach, rehabilitation, and reducing recidivism. Project partners include KMB architecture for court design and general contractor Forma.
“Lynnwood's vision to provide a comprehensive campus of services for the community was inspiring as an architect," Brett Hanson, Mackenzie Principal-in-Charge of the Seattle office said recently. “Their passion energized the entire team, and the project has been a great source of pride.”
