The project was pursued jointly with the Albany Fire Headquarters Station. Mackenzie was selected to provide design services for both projects, due to the advantages of consistency with materials and systems and cost control. The services included development of a needs assessment and assistance with public outreach and pursuit of a General Obligation bond. The resulting project was developed as a full service replacement law enforcement facility for the city of Albany. The facility includes 911 dispatch, an emergency operations center, and was designed to allow for future additions to accommodate growth. The facility was located outside of the downtown core to allow for rapid response via access to arterial roadways.

The site is located next to a residential zone along the back and office function on the sides. It was important that the facility had a buffer from the adjacent uses. With this in mind, the new facility was located close to the main road to increase its civic visibility and provide a visual screening for secure parking, but enable multiple means of access.
