Continuing a long-standing working relationship with the city of Lake Oswego, Mackenzie is currently designing a 10-acre community park focused on active recreation. Through a year-long public outreach process, Mackenzie engaged the community through nine virtual and in-person meetings. Through this process, over 600 respondents drove a concept for the park that maximized play and exercising opportunities, while respecting the natural character of the surroundings.
The park’s primary feature is a synthetic turf athletic field that will enable year round soccer, lacrosse, baseball, and softball games for youth sports. Spectators can watch the competition from the top of an earthen mound that serves as a vantage point for the whole site while providing a cost saving approach to the site earthwork.
In addition to a 10,000 SF skatepark, a large playground complements the other uses on the site. As one of the largest playgrounds in Lake Oswego, it focuses on a rich and diverse play experience that is accessible to everyone. Input from over 100 elementary schoolers informed the final concept, which includes a mix of natural play elements and accessible play equipment.
